The area traditionally served by York District Hospital covers an area of approximately 400 square miles. There are around 5500 people with diabetes who attend GP surgeries or hospital clinics.

The Diabetes Team consists of three Specialist Nurses for adults, one Specialist Nurse for children and young adults, two Diabetologists/Endocrinologists and a paediatrician with a special interest in diabetes. The Centre provides a full time podiatrist/chiropody service and a comprehensive diatetic service.

There are four nurse led clinics and three full clinics held weekly with blood glucose meter and education sessions held twice per month. There is a weekly children's clinic and a monthly clinic for adolescents. Full community and hospital support is offered along with a drop-in facility in the Centre. Education sessions for all nurses working in the hospital, community and the private sectors are provided regularly along with general practitioner and practice nurse up-dates.

Diabetes UK - York and District Diabetic Club

Diabetes UK - York and District Diabetic club hold their meetings on the first Wednesday in every month in the Diabetes Centre at York District Hospital. For further information please contact the Diabetes Centre on 01904 726510.

The Branch gives support to people with diabetes and their carers. There is a monthly programme of social events both informative and entertaining. Once a week there is a stall in the Diabetes Centre in the hospital where diabetic cook books, Diabetes UK goods and other items are sold. The Branch raises money for research by street collections and envelope collections during Diabetes UK week in June. There is a coffee day at St. Crux in September and regular raffles and events are held continuously.

Art Workshop for Children

A recent art workshop was held at York District Hospital and over 20 people provided pictures which are displayed in the Main Corridor in the hospital.
