How to Set-Up a Meter (Inserting batteries/ test strip drum and configuring the meter)
• With the meter turned off, turn the meter over and open the battery compartment by sliding the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow. Insert new batteries and replace the cover.
• With the meter turned off, open the drum compartment by pulling up the drum compartment cover from the bottom as far as it will go. Remove the dummy/old drum by pressing the red drum release button and tipping the meter forward so the drum falls out. Insert the new drum (only fits in one way) and close the compartment. The meter automatically scans the barcodes and moves the drum into position.
• Check that a small dot has appeared in the control window in the back of the meter indicating a new full drum has been inserted. This window subsequently displays the number of strips remaining once testing has started.
• Press the S button to enter the Set mode.
• ‘On1’ flashes on the display to indicate the beeper is turned on. Press the M button to activate the beeper and the Acoustic Mode together (shown as ‘On2’ on the display). Press the M button again to turn off both the beeper and the Acoustic Mode (‘OFF’).
• Press the S button to move on to the Year setting. Continue to use M to change settings and S to move on to set the time and date in the following order; Year, date/time format, Hours, Minutes, Month and Day.
• Use the M button to turn on the alarm clock (‘On’ flashing in the display with a bell) or turn it off (‘OFF’ flashing in the display with a bell). If the alarm clock is activated, use the M and S buttons to pre-set up to three times for the alarm to sound. Keep pressing S to move on to the hypo limit – use M to turn the function off or set one of three limits (3.3, 3.9 or 4.4 mmol/L).
• Press the Test button to turn off the meter (this can be pressed at any time and all settings will be saved). • Note that fast scrolling can be achieved by keeping M depressed.

How to Perform a Quality Control Test
Activate the meter by pressing the Test button. A test strip is automatically released from the drum.
Wipe the tip of the dropper bottle with a paper towel to remove any dried on residues.
Apply a drop of control solution to the clean surface of an object (e.g. plate or spoon). When the meter is ready (test strip and blood drop icons flashing on the display), touch the front edge of the test strip, near the black notch, to the control solution until the test starts. Withdraw the test strip from the control solution.
Again wipe the tip of the dropper bottle with a paper towel and close the bottle tightly.
If the Autocontrol solution is used, the meter should recognise and label the test as a control automatically (with a control bottle icon). If the solution is not recognised or the original Compact control solutions were used, label the test as a control by pressing the S button twice after the result is displayed.
Check the result against the acceptable ranges printed on the peel-off label that was attached to the drum container. Eject the strip and turn off the meter by pressing the Test button.
