Calibration

When starting a new vial of test strips always check that the calibration code for that test strip vial is entered into the meter.

This code number is shown at the top of the vial label.

To check the code number in the meter switch on the meter and check that the number that appears on the meter screen matches the one on the strip vial.

To alter the calibration code press the Up/Down button to increase or decrease the code number until it matches the one shown at the top of the label on the side of the strip vial.

Testing

1. Wash your hands with soap and warm water. This will help increase the blood flow to your fingers. Rinse and dry your hands thoroughly.

2. Turn the meter on by pressing the power button. You will hear a short beep and the meter quickly goes through a self-checking process. Next the meter will show the selected glucose result (blood or plasma) followed by the flashing 'insert strip' symbol and the current calibration code number. Check this code number matches the one on the strip vial and adjust as required. See full details under calibration above.

3. Remove test strip, holding it at the end away from the testing spot. Recap test strip vial immediately to protect the remaining strips.

4. Use the lancing device to obtain a blood sample from your finger. For best results lance the side of your fingertip. Once you have formed a rounded drop of blood, apply it to the test spot on the test strip. Ensure the blood drop completely covers the test spot. Do not allow your finger to touch the test spot. To ensure you have applied enough blood simply turn the strip over and check for full cover change on the spot. (It turns darker. Insert the strip fully into the meter. The meter will beep and the display will count up until the test result is displayed (typicaly 10 to 50 seconds).

Record your result in your daily log, Selfcheck members will be sent free, QuickTick record books for this purpose, then switch off the meter and remove the test strip. Discard the used strip and the lancet from the lancing device.

Prestige Test Strips are available on prescription.

Lancing device will use any Type A lancet
