Kingston upon Hull is a port at the confluence of the River Hull and the Humber Estuary and has been a gateway to the heart of England since Roman times. The original Kingston upon Hull dates back to the thirteenth century but latterly has come to be known as Hull.

Hull's fishing trade boomed during the late 1940's and 50's, but during the subsequent 50 years, redevelopment of the inner city and dockland area has been the main focus.

The surrounding East Riding villages to the north, east and west of Hull have also grown in the last 50 years and are all within commuting distance of Hull City Centre.

The Hull & East Riding Diabetes Network covers Hull and The East Riding Villages and is based at The Brocklehurst Centre Anlaby Road Hull HU3 2RW near to The Hull Royal Infirmary.
