The area traditionally served by York District Hospital covers an area of approximately 400 square miles. There are around 5500 people with diabetes who attend GP surgeries or hospital clinics.
The Diabetes Team consists of three Specialist Nurses for adults, one Specialist Nurse for children and young adults, two Diabetologists/Endocrinologists and a paediatrician with a special interest in diabetes. The Centre provides a full time podiatrist/chiropody service and a comprehensive diatetic service.
There are four nurse led clinics and three full clinics held weekly with blood glucose meter and education sessions held twice per month. There is a weekly children's clinic and a monthly clinic for adolescents. Full community and hospital support is offered along with a drop-in facility in the Centre. Education sessions for all nurses working in the hospital, community and the private sectors are provided regularly along with general practitioner and practice nurse up-dates. |
