The team (Pictured Left) is based at Scarborough Hospital with satellite clinics at Malton, Pickering and Whitby. As well as providing a service for the adult population, specialist services include Paediatric, Antenatal and Foot Ulcer clinics throughout the area, with a Domicilliary Service for the housebound.
In-patient care is provided at Scarborough, Whitby and Malton Hospitals. As well as working with Secondary care, there are close links with Primary care, providing support to 29 surgeries. The area is served by one Primary Care Trust (Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale). The Diabetes Project Group has health professional members from Primary and Secondary care as well as patients. This body amalgamated with the existing Local Diabetes Service Advisory Group and is the major influence on the local diabetes services.
PATIENT GROUP
The Scarborough Voluntary has re-formed in early in 2006.
Since then it has been working to establish itself in the town by holding public meetings (which are usually at three-four monthly intervals) when we have invited various speakers from Scarborough Hospital. These have included Mr Bacon, Consultant Ophthamologist, Mrs Sally Woolgar Diabetic Specialist Dietitian, and Dr David Humphriss who agreed to become our Hon. President.
Three further Public Meeting dates are arranged for 2008
The aims of the group are
To raise awareness of diabetes
Lobby for the improvement of services for people with Diabetes
To exhibit help and information at craft and charity venues
To visit other outlets (supermarkets etc.) to display information to the public and distribute information
Please contact Mrs Yvonne Stewart (Group Secretary) on 01723 376169 for further information.
